The curved feet of the Smile bridge were devised to adjust to the natural curve on a banjo head when under string tension. This alleviates the stress found in the traditionally-built flat-bottomed bridge. The result is less bridge constriction, enhanced low-end and midrange frequencies, plus an overall balance from string to string.
